Entertainment Programs

Ranken Jordan welcomes entertainment programs, which are properly organized and adhere to the following guidelines and rules. We hope this information will assist you in planning your visit and program.

Guidelines for Entertainment Programs by Groups or Individuals
  1. All visiting groups must have some type of program or activities planned.  All requests by groups or individual entertainers must be made through and approved by the Volunteer Coordinator, in conjunction with the PHRS Dept., and a “Group Volunteer Service Form” must be completed and returned at least 1 week prior to the visit.  All attendees are required to sign and submit a Volunteer Hold Harmless Agreement at least 1 week prior to the visit.
  2. Programs may be scheduled during the following times:
    Saturday/Sunday 1:30pm - 3pm
    Monday through Friday 3:00pm - 4:00pm or 6 - 7pm
  3. Groups of individuals under 16 years of age must be chaperoned, and groups of children under 10 years of age are not generally allowed to present programs.  Group size must be limited to a maximum of 8, unless only performing for the patients.
  4. Performances or group programs should not exceed one hour due to the limited attentions spans of many of the children.
  5. No photographs may be taken of the children nor may any food or beverage be brought into the hospital.
  6. Please understand that Ranken Jordan can never promise a large audience or one that won’t have a child or two coming or going during the activity.
  7. Content of presentations must be appropriate for children from a variety of religious, political, and social backgrounds.  Ranken Jordan is a non-denominational organization and asks volunteers to respect the varying beliefs of patients and families by not imposing their religious beliefs including distribution of religious material.
  8. If costumes are worn, they must not be frightening.
  9. Any toy or item that you intend to give out during your show must be approved in advance by the Volunteer Coordinator and PHRS Dept.
  10. For safety reasons, RUBBER BALLOONS ARE NOT ALLOWED.  Please only bring MYLAR BALLONS.

Additional Helpful Pointers for Visiting Groups...

Ranken Jordan is a medical facility, therefore we ask you to please prepare your group to respectfully encounter children who are recovering from disfiguring burns, head injuries, etc. or who may be permanently disabled.

This also includes respecting a patient’s privacy.  Do not ask questions like, “What’s wrong with you?” “How long have you been here?” “What happened to you?”  Please also refrain from asking questions about the child’s family or home-life.

To get conversation rolling, introduce yourself, and then ask questions about the child’s age, name, or interests.  Comment positively on what he/she is wearing, hair, etc.

Please note; if you or anyone in your group is experiencing any symptoms please refrain from coming to Ranken Jordan and subjecting the children to infection.
