Peggy Garrett is an educator who has worked as a teacher and administrator during her professional career, and now as a volunteer to improve the quality of life for young children in the St. Louis area Peggy has spent her life providing for the education for children and parents alike.
After teaching for six years at the elementary level, she began a career in the education of young children. She entered preschool education when it was unusual for many children to attend a preschool before kindergarten. She soon found that the energy, enthusiasm and nurturing of young children was her true joy.
After teaching preschool for three years, she became Director of Salem-in-Ladue Methodist Preschool. During her 22 years as a preschool director, she provided many innovative changes that influenced the growth of preschool parenting skills, programming opportunities and quality in preschool education in St. Louis. Peggy helped develop educational standards through the Voluntary Accreditation Program for the State of Missouri.
In 2000, Peggy retired as Director of Salem-in-Ladue Methodist Preschool and has since volunteered for various service organizations that focus on children’s needs - Ranken Jordan Pediatric Specialty Hospital being one of them. Peggy began working on projects at Ranken Jordan by serving on the art committee.
In 2002, she helped establish Ranken Jordan’s “Baskets of Help,” which provided donated household cleaning items, personal care items, and baby supplies for the outpatient families. She has served as Treasurer of the Friends organization for three years and provided leadership for fundraising events. Peggy has helped raise funds by working on a Ranken Jordan cookbook and luncheon, on committees for the annual dinners, and most recently developed the idea for the first annual 2006 Shining Lights at Ranken Jordan. Peggy co-chaired the holiday party for children with an auction of decorated Christmas trees.
