At Ranken Jordan – A Pediatric Specialty Hospital, patient care is always a top priority. With the return of Barb Champion, PNP (Pediatric Nurse Practitioner) to the hospital's medical team, Ranken Jordan's patients and families will continue to receive the unsurpassed care to which they have grown accustomed.

"Our patients are always our main concern, and the addition of Barb to the medical team will allow us to serve patients and their families better than ever,"said Lauri Tanner, president and chief executive officer of the hospital located in Maryland Heights. "We are delighted to have Barb back again as a key member of the Ranken Jordan team."

Champion is responsible for direct clinical management of medically complex children in transition from hospital to home. She will act as a liaison between the Ranken Jordan multi-disciplinary team and providers in the community who are involved in the care of these children.

By providing continuity for the patients and their families, Champion is able to provide a comprehensive approach to children with multiple needs, and thereby able to better serve these patients and their families.

"When it comes to patient care, we always consider the needs of the children first," Champion said. "I want to do what is best for them, and I know, from past experience, that we can fulfill this goal because Ranken Jordan provides our staff with everything they need to offer the best care possible."

Champion will collaborate daily with the staff pediatricians and confer with specialists to assure her patients' medical issues are addressed completely and effectively. She will also work with the ancillary staff and the family through care conferences to assure optimal discharge planning and family/home preparation.

"Ranken Jordan is the perfect hospital for a nurse, because our staff provides such a fun, caring and positive atmosphere for children," Champion said. "The decision to rejoin the staff was not difficult for me because, ultimately, I knew this is where I belong."

Champion earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and a Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of Missouri-Saint Louis. Barb has worked most recently as a general surgery pediatric nurse practitioner at St. Louis Children's Hospital.
