Amy Zimmermman, MD Joins Ranken Jordan on FlickrAt Ranken Jordan the care of young patients remains a top priority.  And the addition of Amy Zimmermann, M.D., to the hospital’s medical staff increases significantly the hospital’s ability to provide pediatric physiatry and rehabilitative care to the entire midwest region.

“Our young patients are always our main concern, and the medical staff addition of Dr. Zimmermann will allow us to serve patients and their families better than ever.  Amy’s training and experience in pediatric rehabilitation underscore her dedication, passion and knowledge,” said Dr. Nick Holekamp, chief medical officer of Ranken Jordan. “We are delighted to have Dr. Zimmermann.  With Amy’s arrival, the medically complex children in our community and the midwest region will receive the highest level of specialized pediatric physiatry care.”

Dr. Zimmermann’s special training in pediatric physiatry will benefit not only the young inpatients of Ranken Jordan, but outpatient children throughout the community.  She wants to increase the level of physiatric care and hopes the community can soon understand the importance of readily available pediatric physiatry and rehabilitation.

“When it comes to patient care, we always consider the needs of the children first,” Dr. Zimmermann said.  “I discovered pediatric physiatry late in medical school and it was a perfect fit for me personally and professionally.  Independent function and quality of life are things for which we all naturally strive.  Some children have a more difficult time attaining those goals. As a pediatric physiatrist, I get to work with a team of professionals who help kids achieve those goals.”

Dr. Zimmermann combines efforts with Eugene Evra, M.D., to form one of the foremost two-person physiatry teams in the region.

“I feel very fortunate to practice pediatric physiatry at Ranken Jordan,” Dr. Zimmermann said. “Everyone here strives to provide excellent medical, physical, cognitive and emotional care to our patients and support and education for families. We want to reach all children in the region who need serious rehabilitative care.”

Dr. Zimmermann is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is board eligible in pediatric rehabilitation medicine. She earned her medical degree in 2003 from the University of Missouri-Columbia and then completed her physical medicine and rehabilitation residency at the University of Alabama.  Dr. Zimmermann worked most recently at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, where she completed her pediatric rehabilitation medicine fellowship. A native of Idaho, she lived in Missouri for almost 15 years while attending school.  Amy and her husband Andy have two children.
