It takes a team of specialists to help a child with disabilities regain function. Physical, occupational, speech, art and music therapists, plus psychiatrists, nurses, dieticians and social workers all contribute to this process. With the addition of physiatrist, Dr. Eugene Evra,
Ranken Jordan is able to address this growing need for medical rehab. Since July, he has been developing a physical medicine and rehabilitation clinic at the hospital.
Physiatrists specialize in diagnosing and treating musculoskeletal injuries and pain syndromes and rehabilitating patients with severe impairments. According to the Association of Academic Physiatrists, the need for physiatry is increasing nationwide due to improved survival rates after diseases and injuries that medicine formerly could not treat.
