Shari Riley, Director of Customer ServiceAt Ranken Jordan – A Pediatric Specialty Hospital, customer service is always a top priority. With the addition of Shari Riley to the hospital’s newly created position of director of customer service and staff development, service excellence provided to Ranken Jordan’s patients and their families is rising to a new level.

“Our patients are always our main concern, and this new position will allow us to serve them better than ever through in-depth customer service development and staff training,” said Lauri Tanner, president and chief executive officer. “We are delighted to have Shari facilitate these changes as a new member of the Ranken Jordan team.”

Riley is responsible for overseeing and improving relationships with patients, family and staff. She also facilitates staff education and leadership development programs. She is charged with creating an annual educational program to update staff members about trends and changes in the customer service environment. By providing employees with up-to-date information, Riley equips employees with the tools needed to better serve patients and their families.

“When it comes to customer service, we always consider the children first,” Riley said. “We want to do what is best for them, and we can fulfill this goal is by providing our staff with everything they need to offer the best care possible.”

Riley will supplement Ranken Jordan’s current customer service program though leadership and motivational presentations. Riley is a major proponent of the FISH! Philosophy and has led several presentations about the program at Ranken Jordan over the past five years. The FISH! Philosophy is a tool for providing inspiration, creativity and innovation in the workplace.

For a hospital that caters to the needs of children, Riley believes this program will continue to be of great value.

“Ranken Jordan is the perfect institution for the FISH! Philosophy program, because our staff provides such a fun, caring and positive atmosphere for children,” Riley said. “The decision to join the staff was not difficult for me because, ultimately, I knew this is where I wanted to be.”

Riley earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Webster University and a master’s degree in geriatric nursing from Saint Louis University. In her 25-year career, Riley has held several nursing and administrative positions. Most recently, she served as the manager of standards and practice/magnet coordinator at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in Town and Country, Mo.

As a former affiliate faculty member at Jewish Hospital College of Nursing and Allied Health in St. Louis, Riley lectured and provided clinical experiences for nursing students in the areas of neurology, orthopedics, immunology and oncology. Her professional affiliations include the American Nurses’ Association, Missouri Nurses’ Association and Sigma Theta Tau – Delta Lambda Chapter.
