An employee opinion survey conducted by HR Solutions Inc. placed Ranken Jordan – A Pediatric Specialty Hospital in the 89th percentile among children’s hospitals nationally. Nearly 200 of Ranken Jordan’s 220 employees participated in the survey, which focuses on numerous job satisfaction dimensions.

Overall job satisfaction at Ranken Jordan was rated at 86 percent favorable, compared to 77 percent nationally. In fact, every single dimension of job satisfaction in the survey – from pay and benefits satisfaction to promotions/career advancement and productivity/efficiency – rated higher than the national average.

“Very rarely does a first-time participant score above the median – most score in the lower third of the database,” said Kevin Sheridan, chief executive officer of HR Solutions, a Chicago-based human capital management consulting firm that specializes in employee surveys. “Ranken Jordan scored much higher than I would have anticipated, and it’s a testament to the commitment of the highest people within the hospital to listening and responding to employees.”

HR Solutions compared Ranken Jordan’s scores against a database of nearly 500 health care organizations from around the country that have been surveyed over the past three years. The survey uses a five-point scale, with “percent favorable” referring to the sum of “agree” and “strongly agree” responses.

Ranken Jordan staff feel extremely valued, as evidenced by 87 percent of employees responding favorably to the statement “Physicians at our organization appreciate the efforts of hospital employees.” This compares to the national average of just 48 percent favorable.

Similarly, 77 percent of employees responded favorably to the statement “There is adequate teamwork between physicians and nurses in this organization.” The national average for this survey item was 51 percent favorable.

“These survey results demonstrate that our collaborative approach to patient care resonates with employees. At Ranken Jordan, everyone pulls together to provide the best patient care possible,” said Lauri Tanner, president and chief executive officer. “We won’t rest on our laurels, though. We are believers in continual improvement and will always look for ways to enrich the work experience for everyone at Ranken Jordan.”
